Middle School Aerospace Scholars (MAS)

As the subcontractor to San Jacinto College, USRA offers teachers an exciting distance education program that brings space science to middle school classrooms and educators. The program encourages middle school students to study mathematics and science that will allow them to pursue careers as engineers, scientists, and computer scientists. By enabling middle school students to interact with NASA engineers and scientists, students may be encouraged to make the choices required to be successful in senior high school science programs.

Texas middle school teachers spend one week during the summer in a professional development workshop at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. They learn how to use NASA's educational resources in the classroom and develop an action plan to implement in their curriculum. During the following school year, teachers and their students participate in a series of distance learning events at their own school.
