HUNCH Students Participate in CEP

Student Joshua Amett and teacher William Gibbs and students with teacher Mike Bennett.Four (4) Houston-area high school students participated in NASA’s HUNCH (High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware) Program through the summer under USRA’s CSA Program (Career Exploration Program Short-term Assignment).

HUNCH was established in 2003 as a collaborative effort between NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) and local area high schools. Through HUNCH, students gain hands-on engineering experience by designing and building prototype hardware for the International Space Station.  HUNCH is a win-win both for students and NASA, providing JSC with tangible hardware that is integrated in astronaut training.

Through the CEP Short-term Assignment Program, high school seniors Joshua Arnett and Andrew Beach, and sophomores Troy Mettey and Zach Pacioni continued their HUNCH work throughout the summer in 10-week long CSA internships.  As interns, students worked daily alongside JSC machinists and NASA technical mentors and supervisors.

Students completed their summer internship with an Exit Project Presentation given to International Space Station Program Manager Mike Suffredini and ISS Program Staff.
