Hammond receives Space Flight Awareness Award
Universities Space Research Association (USRA) proudly recognizes Ms. Barbara Hammond, recipient of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Space Flight Awareness Award.
Ms. Hammond was presented with the Space Flight Awareness Award by JSC Director Mike Coats on March 25, 2009 in recognition of her outstanding achievements and unwavering commitment to the future of space exploration. The Space Flight Awareness Award is one of the highest awards presented to NASA and industry individuals who have contributed beyond their normal work requirements to achieve significant impact on attaining a particular human space flight program goal. As part of her recognition, Ms. Hammond and her husband were invited to attend the VIP tour and launch of the Space Shuttle on mission STS-119 at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
For over two decades, Ms. Hammond has significantly contributed to the development of the human space flight workforce by equipping and empowering the next generation of NASA scientists, engineers, researchers, and space explorers by providing students with education and work-study experiences for the Agency. In addition, Ms. Hammond’s efforts with the Program/Project Management Development Program (PPMD) resulted in Agency-wide recognition of the Program as the foundational model for senior management training.
Ms. Hammond continues to serve as the Program Manager for the Education Programs Office in Houston where she manages the Career Exploration Program and Texas Aerospace Scholars Program at Johnson Space Center.
